Every man dreams of having a beard that people look back on: thick, healthy, well-groomed. But even the most dedicated bearders make mistakes that spoil the whole result. In this article from Ignite barbershop – 6 most common mistakes and simple tips on how to avoid them.
Washing your beard too often
Many people wash their beard every day, thinking it will be cleaner that way. But this actually washes away the natural oils that nourish and protect the hair. The result is a dry, brittle and unruly beard.
Wash my beard 2-3 times a week with a mild, sulfate-free shampoo designed specifically for beards.
You don’t use beard oil
Beard oil is not a beauty product, but the basis of daily care. It moisturizes hair and skin, relieves itching, prevents dryness and makes your beard soft and pleasant to the touch.
Apply a few drops of beard oil every day – especially after a shower when your pores are open.
You wash your beard with regular hair shampoo.
Head shampoos often contain aggressive cleansing ingredients. They dry not only the hair, but also the skin underneath – in the case of beards, this leads to irritation and flaking.
Use only special beard products. They gently cleanse, maintain balance and do not cause itching.
You’re not exfoliating the skin under your beard.
Dead skin cells accumulate under the beard, especially if the skin tends to be oily. This causes itching and beard dandruff, which ruins the impression of even the most stylish beard.
1-2 times a week, use a gentle scrub or beard brush to cleanse the skin under your hair and let it breathe.
You don’t shape your beard
Letting your beard go is one thing. But if you don’t trim it, it quickly loses its shape and starts to look unkempt. Even a natural beard needs grooming.
Ignite tip: Get a beard grooming kit and do some light modeling at least once a week. Or book an appointment with us – we’ll give you the shape you want.
You’re forgetting that the beard starts on the inside.
The condition of your beard is directly related to how you eat and whether you drink water. A deficiency of protein, vitamins and fatty acids leads to brittleness and stunted growth.
Add protein (meat, eggs, legumes), fats (avocado, nuts, fish), B vitamins, zinc and be sure to drink enough water to your diet.
